Target cuts toy prices up to 50% & will price-match

In the news:

Target fired back at rival Walmart with price cuts of as much as 50% on toys like Barbie and G.I. Joe, as the megachain works to woo shoppers during the holiday season.

The retailer's move Wednesday comes just days after Walmart expanded its $10 holiday toys program, offering more than 100 toys - including Mattel's Barbie dolls and some board games - for $10 each.

Target is countering with items like $5 Barbie dolls and a $15 G.I. Joe action figure from Hasbro. Target's discounted items also include the Fisher-Price Little People Play 'N Go Farm Set 50th Anniversary edition for $11.

Target has said there is a perception among shoppers that its competitors offer lower prices. It has worked this year to change that view.

The retailer is placing a bigger emphasis on the "Pay Less" side of its "Expect More. Pay Less" tagline, and adding signs in stores that point out deals for less than $5, less than $10 and less than $15.

Target also said that, if it does not offer the lowest price, stores nationwide will match locally advertised prices on identical items.

The holiday shopping season is critical for toymakers and retailers alike as parents usually splurge on gifts for children even when cutting back on themselves. But the 2008 holiday sales season was dismal, forcing toy companies to rework their strategy for this year.

Mattel and Hasbro are making fewer products and emphasizing new items at lower prices, realizing that consumers may not want to shell out hundreds of dollars for toys.

Certain Barbie dolls, Nerf Blaster guns and "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game are some of the toys expected to fly off shelves this holiday season, one list showed.

All about freebies..

I have been a online freebie and deal hunter for awhile now. The best things are free :) So, I thought I would share some of my thoughts on freebies and then will get to posting some ACTUAL freebies links :)

Ok....All I know about freebies online.

1. Not all freebies come. You sign up. You wait. Sometimes they never show. Others have theories - the mailman took it(which I never believe), the company just wants your info (which is sometimes true) - my thoughts? IT'S FREE. You win some you lose some :)

2. If it looks to good to be true it usually is.

3. Common sense freeebie hunting is the only way to go. Let's say you sign up for a freebie. Let's say it's for a full bottle of Dawn Liquid Washing detergent. The site that has the freebie form is named....AutoDealsofthecentury. kom Red Flag? Yes!!

4. Some freebies go FAST!!! Especially if it says first xxxx people or while supplies last.

5. Get a freebie email address - you will be spammed!! I have a gmail that I use just for Freebies! Don't use your family email address - Freebies are marketing. They want you to try their product and they want your email for their newsletter or updates.

6. Usually (not always but ALMOST always) if you have to do much for the freebie (like spam the heck out of your friends!! ) it's not worth it.

7. Never Ever Ever Ever Ever Ever Ever Ever pay for a sample or freebie (sometimes the questionable site will try to get a "small" shipping fee, ect.) on a site that you don't 100% trust!!

Why I love freebies:

1. I love the shampoo samples for camping, ect.

2. STOCKING STUFFERS!!

3. It's FREE?

4. Getting to try new products

5. The thrill of the hunt (ok I really said that)

The Cardinal Rule of Freebies:

1. Don't take advantage of freebies!! Especially when they are for specific people (ie. people suffering from Cancer, if it's not applicable to you and your family, signing up for more than the allowed amount).

That's about all of the info that I think really makes the difference for me when I'm freebie or deal hunting!!

So this blog is mainly to share the freebies and good stuff I find with friends and family - but anyone is welcome to read along.

And remember this is mostly opinion....afterall - it's a blog :)
